Roasted barley tea has been enjoyed by Japanese aristocrats since the Heian period (794 - 1185) and is popular in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Heian means ‘peace’ and we invite you to experience a sense of peacefulness as you sip our slightly bitter - yet fruity - barley tea. The barley and apricot kernels for this tea have been lovingly grown by a small family farm in Ladakh, an area in the upper reaches of the Himalayas with breathtaking views and pristine landscapes. The barley is lovingly tended and harvested over 5 months and is then gently roasted on a wood fire. The organic apricots are from a family farm in the Central Valley of California.
This tea has a tart fruity flavor that balances the bitterness of the whole barley grains. This wonderful caffeine-free tea includes various vitamins & antioxidants, and is thought to aid digestion and cleanse the blood. This tea should be simmered for a few (5 - 10, depending on your taste preferences) minutes to extract the most flavor and nutrients. It can be enjoyed both hot and cold.
Note: Since our tea includes apricot kernels that could be potentially toxic in larger quantities, please consume in moderation (1-2 cups each day).
