Our Shakkar, a.k.a. Jaggery, is an immensely flavorful sugar born from sugarcane, grown at a cousin’s organic farm in Rajasthan, India. The sugarcane is organically grown at the farm, hand juiced, and the juice is boiled in a traditional giant wok (kadhai) over a foxhole wood fire. It doesn’t get any more authentic than this!
The result is a wonderfully complex sweetener with a caramelized scent and flavor that retains all the vitamins and minerals found in sugarcane. It also has a lower glycemic index than processed sugar. Once you use it for tea, coffee, and desserts, you’ll never go back to using commercial sugar.
