Grown in the Indian Himalayan Region of Sikkim and known locally as Timmur, our Red Sichuan Peppercorns offer a unique mala (麻辣), or “numbing-spicy” flavor as compared to our Green Sichuan Peppercorns from China. The red peppercorns are picked later than their green counterparts, giving them a stronger flavor, but a milder numbing effect.
Why are they called “Sichuan Peppercorns” you might ask? Because even though they’re grown in India, the varietal is the same. Sikkim has wonderful terroir combined with a ban on chemical fertilizers, so we think these are some of THE best peppercorns you will taste. Let’s get ready to tingle!
